No. 1 Penn State wrestlers to host No. 8 Michigan on Sunday for White Out at Rec Hall

MANHEIM | Top-ranked undefeated Penn State and No. 8 Michigan will duke it out for the Big Ten lead 2 p.m. Sunday at Rec Hall in State College, Pa. in the NWCA Match of the Week.

While the host Nittany Lions (11-0, 6-0) are off until Sunday’s match, the Wolverines (9-1, 4-0) host Big Ten rival Northwestern (1-7, 0-3).

“We’re never going to overlook our dual on Friday with Northwestern,” 17th-year Michigan head coach Joe McFarland said, “but regarding Penn State, it’s a great place to wrestle. The fans will be rowdy there, Rec Hall will be full, and it will be a great atmosphere, hostile, for our team to wrestle.”

NCAA DI Wrestling Week in Review

MANHEIM – Bodies were flying and wrestling teams were jostling for position last weekend despite a snowstorm that ran roughshod through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast regions.

The biggest noise was heard in Champaign, Ill. on Friday when Penn State red-shirt freshman Jason Nolf Nolf_Jason (H-15-MS) 6922pinned returning national champion and top-ranked 157-pounder Isaiah Martinez for his first college defeat.

Undefeated No. 4 Mizzou wrestlers head to No. 5 Oklahoma State

MANHEIM – It’s the literal challenge of the irresistible force running smack dab into the immovable object, and in this case, it’s undefeated fourth-ranked Missouri – riding a 37-match dual meet winning streak – heading into hostile territory to take No. 5 Oklahoma State 7 p.m. Friday at Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater, Okla.

The meet is not only a crucial showdown in the national rankings, but important as Missouri (9-0) seeks to keep moving forward in its quest to defend its NWCA Division Dual Meet National Championship.

NWCA Division I National Duals

Stay tuned for news on the upcoming NWCA Division I National Duals Series, which will feature sixteen teams going head-to-head the weekend of Feb. 20 on eight campuses nationwide.

Four teams – Penn State (10-0) and Iowa (11-0) from the Big Ten, North Carolina (17-0) from the ACC, and Missouri (9-0) from the MAC — are undefeated heading into this weekend’s matches.

We’ll feature some previews here before Saturday’s action.

 

Fishing Forecast: Learn to tie flies with Hokey Chapter of Trout Unlimited

The recent run on frigid weather is set to take a break this weekend, and despite the unseasonably warm weather over the holidays, cabin fever still seems to find a way to set in, especially since those three weeks prior to the frigid weather were either extremely overcast or rainy.

Get out of the house and take a trip over to Northampton Middle School (1617 Laubach Avenue, Northampton, Pa.) this Saturday.From 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. every Saturday through Feb. 27 (weather permitting), the Hokendauqua Chapter of Trout Unlimited (http://hokendauqua.tu.org/) will hold its annual fly tying classes.IMG_0702
