Get your cameras ready and prepare to use The Great Outdoors as your backdrop.
The third annual Lehigh Valley Hunting & Fishing Extravaganza Photography Contest sponsored by Cabela’s will be judged Aug. 27 and 28 at the 11th annual outdoors show once again being held at the Kempton Fairgrounds.
“The photo contest theme this year is ‘What A Wonderful World’,” explained Jeannie Carl, the coordinator for the photography contest. “We’re just trying to
inspire photographers to get out there and take a long look at their world. The photos can be a sunrise, a sunset, a child playing in a puddle, a dog, whatever. We just want photographers to get a sense of what’s around them and connect with it.”
The contest features three categories: Wildlife; Macro; and Landscape, and people can be in the landscape to make the shot more interesting. Trailcam photos are not permitted this year
The deadline for entry is Aug. 19, and entries can be dropped off at the Carbon County Environmental Education Center in Summit Hill; Bob’s Taxidermy, 4642 Kernsville Road, Orefield; or Weaknecht Archery, 159 Kutz Mill Road, Kutztown.
Photo entry forms are available on the show website at www.lvhfe.com by clicking on the Photography Contest link on the left side of the screen.
Entry fee is $5 per submission with a limit of three entries per photographer, and the photographs may be sold by the owner following the show. All entries must be ready for hanging, have no sharp edges and not be flimsy. The entry form must be securely affixed to the back of each photo.
The contest will be judged by the public with ballots available at the contest site. Winners will be notified of their prizes at the conclusion of the show, and may pick up or sell their photos after 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 28, or make arrangements to pick them up at the drop off locations.
Carl said that budding photographers should also attend this year’s LVHFE show with a camera or good photo-capable cell phone and a photographer’s eye. Next year’s contest will be based on photos taken at this year’s LVHFE.
