After these hot August dog days of summer, it’s time to get your dog in gear.
Get your pup ready for hunting season at the 6th annual Lehigh Valley Hunting and Fishing Extravaganza Top Dog Challenge 9 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28 at the Kempton Fairgrounds in Kempton, Pa.
The timed bird-finding event is sponsored by Pheasant Valley Farm of Robesonia, Berks County and the LVHFE, and is open to flushers, pointers and retrievers. Trophies are awarded at the completion of the event, and the top three places will receive Cabela’s gift cards.
In addition, the winning dog will be photographed and included on the LVHFE.com website.
Registration is free, but limited to 20 total dogs. Mark F. Wolfskill, proprietor of Pheasant Valley Farm, and guide/dog trainer Karen Shannon will have a booth set up at the annual LVHFE, which takes place Aug. 27-28 at the Kempton Fairgrounds, and will take registrations beginning Aug. 27.
In addition, Wolfskill and Shannon will present bird dog training seminars 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Saturday, and 1 p.m. Sunday following the competition. The seminars will include information on basic field obedience as well as introducing dogs to birds and gunfire. A short field demonstration will follow each seminar.
